CAMP NOR’WESTER CAMP DEVELOPMENT PLAN
Established in 1936, Camp Nor'Wester is a co-ed residential summer camp for boys and girls, ages 9-16. Located in a near shore setting in Washington's San Juan Island archipelago, the camp is focused on environmental education. Architectural elements of the camp include a dining lodge/kitchen, a craft center, a health center, boys and girls teepee camp sites with showers and toilet facilities, a maintenance facility, and limited housing for staff. Designs for new buildings included the replacement of the iconic dining lodge/kitchen originally designed by Paul Kirk as well as toilet and shower facilities. For many families, Camp Nor’Wester has provided a multigenerational experience, uniquely linking the past with the present.
